That is not a reason to skip backups. It is a reason to preserve lots of versions and check timestamps before restoring. Cloud sync is not version history

Dedicated servers still make sense for groups that need a world online around the clock, want server-side mods, or have lots of players joining at random times. But for a small crew that plays twice a week, save sharing and rollback can avoid paying recurring server rent just to keep a world accessible.

Set it up before the cursed update

The best time to configure automatic rollback is when your save is healthy and nobody is angry. Add the games you care about first, including emulator memory cards and modded worlds. Check that every relevant folder is included. Then decide who can restore shared saves, because one-click restore is brilliant until the wrong person uses it after losing an argument about base design.

For solo players, the habit is even simpler: let the backups run and glance at history before major mod changes, patch days, or a risky save-file edit. For groups, agree on one rule before the first handoff: nobody plays a shared world from a downloaded copy unless they have the active lock. That single rule prevents an astonishing amount of nonsense.

A save file is not just data. It is the map you finally uncovered, the factory you rebuilt six times, the farm your friends kept visiting to steal mayonnaise, and the run you promised yourself you would finish. Give it a history. Future you should have somewhere to go when the latest version starts acting possessed.
